One thing that brings me joy is comparing older work to my current, I love seeing how technical skills improve with time. Improving our skills is a simple as doing, time spent on developing new techniques is never time wasted. The joy of art comes with experiencing another fully enjoying your thoughts and feeling.
Technical skill does not change what we are trying to express but it does make it more clear to the observer. Every idea is clear to us personally but to express it to another is where the challenge begins. To bring the abstract into focus and make a connection takes practice as well as passion.
Wherever our talents bring us in our creative endeavors we will always have the challenge and pleasure of bringing our ideas to life so that they make be understood and experienced. An artist may use light to tell a story, or a writer may use a number of perspectives to detail a scene. We must be able to reach another observer or else our thoughts and feelings stay in the ether.
In all mediums it takes skill to be able to articulate our thoughts and feelings so they may be understood by our audience. Nothing is ever better for being more complex, time spent needlessly in translation will ensure parts of the whole will be lost. Making things universal is a goal I strive for, the human element is what makes art worthwhile, humanity is the measure of all things after all.

Wow! To say your skills are improving is sheer understatement! Yes, the product conveys the ideas better if skillfully better. We are rambling in gibberish whether by words or images otherwise.
ReplyDeleteThanks, to be able to focus our thoughts and feelings for others is where the real joy of life is to be found. We have to break free of the babble.
DeleteIf you really yearn to express yourself in a partucular way, try and figure out how and then do it. Get up the energy and go out out and make something.
ReplyDeleteExactly, we will never grow if we don't create something.
DeleteArt is all about using a medium to communicate. The more you practice, the better you become. Just like words, pictures can tell stories.
ReplyDeleteYes, the more you practice the more coherent your story becomes.
